Mediation is a highly-effective alternative dispute resolution process in which an independent mediator assists all parties in reaching a mutually satisfactory settlement. Mediation has increased in popularity as a way to avoid the expense and negative emotion engendered by litigation.
As a trained mediator, Lauren’s role is to act as a neutral guide, helping the parties reach an agreement that serves them best. She does this by helping the parties understand each other, identify the obstacles to a settlement, and develop strategies to overcome these obstacles. This method of resolving disputes is less expensive and more confidential. More importantly, it is less acrimonious, allowing the parties to have a positive relationship upon conclusion of the mediation.
Unlike typical court cases, mediation is a voluntary and informal process with no witness or evidence presentations, posturing, or threats to “take the other side for all their worth”. The goal is for all parties to participate in good faith and to seek a common ground for settlement.
Lauren provides mediation for both business and personal legal issues, including:
- Intellectual Property
- Antitrust Disputes
- Business Disputes
NOTE: Mediation is different from arbitration where a third party listens to evidence presented by each party and then makes a binding judgement. A mediator does not render decisions or take sides but instead acts as a catalyst to help the parties create their own settlement.
